00:00:00.320 - 00:01:24.620

All right, folks, time to set the record straight. A few weeks back, listeners heard me rant on about a new sandal from Lem's Shoes.

That sandal, the new Switchback sandal, is a classic single strap, single post style that I, without much knowledge, accused of. Of me tooing. And look, in hindsight, it's hard to me to a style that's thousands of years old, right?

What I wasn't informed on was Lem's unique take on making footwear.

And let's just say a few rocks were thrown back at me, and rightly so, because Lem's has really elevated the of minimalist natural movement footwear, anatomically correct fit, zero drop comfort, and lightweight outdoor performance.

And the Switchback, it's crafted from a single piece of material and features a unique single strap design with one buckle for super ease of use, added comfort, and getting it on outside. You can personally check it out yourself when it becomes available on Wednesday, April 23rd. And, oh, hey, retailers.

Did you know that Lemz is looking for wholesale partners? Hit them up@supportemssshoes.com to add a little flavor to your shoe wall.

And be sure to stop by and say hi to the Lemz at their booth at Switchback in Nashville this June. So to all the Lems fans, I may have offended. My sincerest apologies.

And to Lem's, well, you did pay for this advertisement, but more importantly, you made a believer out of me. I've eaten my words and they tasted like freedom. Check out the new Switchback sandal by heading to lemshoes.com.

Chris DeMakes

00:01:26.440 - 00:01:32.768

Rock, flight, rock fight. Rock flight, rock fight. Rock fight.

Colin True

00:01:32.904 - 00:01:50.492

Rock flight, rock fight. Where we speak our truth, slay sacred cows, and sometimes agree to disagree. This is an outdoor podcast. It aims for the head.

I'm Colin True, and joining me today, we don't need a conclave. There is only one person who can make it as our new Pope. It's Justin Houseman.

Justin Housman

00:01:50.556 - 00:02:07.390

I thought about. I actually did think about that today earlier. Like, what if she has a G? Is that how it works?

Like, what would it would in any way be cool to be the Pope? Like, I can't imagine, like, what could possibly be worth it for me to.

Colin True

00:02:07.430 - 00:02:09.054

Like, your wardrobe would look dope.

Justin Housman

00:02:09.102 - 00:02:14.382

I mean, I was, you know, and you know that, like, that's like, the finest fabric in the world, right?

Colin True

00:02:14.486 - 00:02:17.930

Like, you go and you're like, I need an LA Dodgers logo, right?

Justin Housman

00:02:18.790 - 00:02:30.734

Yeah, I'm gonna need to customize this because, you know, also it has to be like, the youngest, purest boys. Like, sewing all that stuff with, like, hands that have never even been outside. Like, sewing the robes.

Colin True

00:02:30.862 - 00:02:32.046

St. Peter's Textiles.

Justin Housman

00:02:32.078 - 00:02:37.850

Yeah, Just, like, everything's gotta be so buttery soft. Oh, must feel amazing. Yeah, I just. I.

Colin True

00:02:37.890 - 00:02:38.570

Did you watch?

Justin Housman

00:02:38.690 - 00:02:42.650

No, but I've heard it's amazing. I've heard it's great. My wife. What a good cast.

Colin True

00:02:42.730 - 00:02:43.178

Really good.

Justin Housman

00:02:43.234 - 00:02:43.834

Yeah, I should watch it.

Colin True

00:02:43.842 - 00:02:44.682

It's really good. You'd like it.

Justin Housman

00:02:44.706 - 00:02:50.714

I should watch it. I'm a big John Lithgow, and now it's timely. Yeah, I don't. But do you. You don't give a. About the Pope, do you? For any reason? No.

Colin True

00:02:50.802 - 00:02:57.866

Come on. I mean, it is. I mean, I guess in the historical sense, what this guy did was pretty cool. Like, he was actually, like, the last.

Justin Housman

00:02:57.938 - 00:02:59.798

Liberal world leader, kind of.

Colin True

00:02:59.874 - 00:03:06.990

Yeah. But it's also like, I. I drives me crazy.

Like, oh, my God, we're mourning the guy who was Pope for 12 years, and that'll be somebody else who spoke for 12 years.

Justin Housman

00:03:07.030 - 00:03:10.574

It's like, why are they always so old? Is that the idea?

Colin True

00:03:10.622 - 00:03:10.894

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:03:10.942 - 00:03:14.050

Like, do they want to, like, have fast turnover?

Colin True

00:03:14.470 - 00:03:18.878

Maybe? I guess it's good he's a dick. Then you can get rid of him quick. I don't know.

Justin Housman

00:03:18.934 - 00:03:23.166

I still don't know. I'm still, like, 50. 50 on whether or not there was a. There was a Jesus at all.

Colin True

00:03:23.318 - 00:03:25.470

I don't think. I think the jury is still out on.

Justin Housman

00:03:25.510 - 00:03:34.264

Yeah, it is. I mean, they. Yeah, I read about. I pay attention to this kind of thing, but anyway, that's not. Yeah. This is a religious podcast now.

Colin True

00:03:34.432 - 00:03:49.704

We just pivoted. We are going to move on from this into some outdoor stuff.

But before we get to any of that, if you missed Monday's episode of the Rock Fight, you got to go back on your producer Dave and I talking about some rumors floating around about REI and maybe them potentially demanding exclusivity from their brand partners.

Justin Housman

00:03:49.832 - 00:03:50.568

Big mistake.

Colin True

00:03:50.664 - 00:04:01.472

Come back this Friday. Here's Chante Salibair. We're going to be talking about pop culture stuff in the outdoors. She has opinions. You got to hear that.

And then, you know, Justin, what do people want to. What if they want to reach out to us?

Justin Housman

00:04:01.496 - 00:04:01.776

Where.

Colin True

00:04:01.848 - 00:04:02.560

Where should they do that?

Justin Housman

00:04:02.600 - 00:04:08.560

Well, you've been doing so good at sending us emails, so you probably know the email address already, but actually, we.

Colin True

00:04:08.600 - 00:04:10.128

Slowed down a little bit lately. We should.

Justin Housman

00:04:10.184 - 00:04:10.448

We.

Colin True

00:04:10.504 - 00:04:11.600

We could use a few more emails.

Justin Housman

00:04:11.680 - 00:04:29.472

Trying to make it sound like you try to pump. Yeah, yeah. So sorry, cut that part out. MyRock gmail.com by the way, I was thinking about this earlier today.

There's going to be a point where like people are going to go, oh, Gmail. Like we do with AOL or Hotmail. Isn't that weird? Like someday.

Colin True

00:04:29.536 - 00:04:31.420

Well, now that they're being broken, sure.

Justin Housman

00:04:31.460 - 00:04:38.720

I wasn't even thinking about that. Just generally speaking, like it does. Nothing lasts forever. Like there will be a point where like I'll be embarrassed as I'll have a Gmail account.

I'll be. I'm sorry.

Colin True

00:04:39.380 - 00:04:41.436

I kind of wish I still had my AOL account.

Justin Housman

00:04:41.508 - 00:04:47.948

I have one and I was using it for like a burner or like the. To get like more free trials at things like Sling TV and stuff. And I can't.

Colin True

00:04:48.044 - 00:04:48.636

Right, right.

Justin Housman

00:04:48.708 - 00:04:54.252

I can't remember like I can't remember what it was. Like it was a Justin Houseman. Was it Jay Houseman? Like I don't have any idea.

Colin True

00:04:54.316 - 00:04:57.800

Dude. It was some weird. Like everyone's first email address was like.

Justin Housman

00:04:58.980 - 00:05:03.820

My first email address was a Gmail. Oh, was it really? Yeah, I was a late comer. Yeah.

Colin True

00:05:03.900 - 00:05:05.324

Wow, look at you.

Justin Housman

00:05:05.492 - 00:05:13.324

Newsletter time. It's newsletter time. Colin. Today came out what? Really, really good with Wes Allen just firing on all cylinders as usual.

Colin True

00:05:13.372 - 00:05:14.732

It was a good one. It was good.

Justin Housman

00:05:14.836 - 00:05:31.932

Also Apple, Spotify, whatever. Fountain. Yeah. Podcast servers or clients or providers that we don't know about yet. That's fine too.

Leave a five star rating, whatever their equivalent of that would be if they don't use the five star tag team.

Colin True

00:05:31.956 - 00:05:37.020

Match and like the WWE right now. This is when you'd be like struggling to get to the like tag me in for you, you know.

Justin Housman

00:05:37.060 - 00:05:42.924

Yeah, I'm definitely, definitely hitting a little bit of a wall. I've been upset.

Colin True

00:05:42.972 - 00:05:44.028

Skunky beer you're drinking.

Justin Housman

00:05:44.124 - 00:05:48.860

Well, that's true. I've been upright and fully functional for 12 hours at this point without really stopping.

Colin True

00:05:48.940 - 00:05:51.100

I do want to tell you though, I did. I got to go surfing this past.

Justin Housman

00:05:51.140 - 00:05:52.428

Where'd you go? Your usual spot?

Colin True

00:05:52.524 - 00:06:26.088

Just. Yeah, usual spots. My niece was Oceanside Harbor. It was beautiful. We went and they're like she wanted to go to the beach. I'm like, yeah, let's go.

And it actually been there. Been pretty good swell for the last couple weeks with this like finally like a two to three foot day. It was great and it was. And I did want to.

So I need a clarification on something. When you have kind of an inside breaking. We see you have the beach break, wave breaks and then you know, you get a little bit kind of.

It's not just like foam. It's not just a whitewash. It almost like reforms. And you get an actual face, though, not just like a.

Is there a name for that or is it just an inside way?

Justin Housman

00:06:26.144 - 00:06:28.620

Reforms. Insiders. Reformer. Insiders.

Colin True

00:06:29.970 - 00:06:32.010

I caught a great. I caught a great little.

Justin Housman

00:06:32.050 - 00:06:48.794

There's like a little reform on the inside. Did you guys see that section on the inside? Yeah, I mean, yeah, all that stuff. You're on the right track.

A wave that, like, broke and then, like white water and then, like, reformed and then, like, broke again. That's good stuff. Those waves are always really steep and pretty fun on the inside.

Colin True

00:06:48.842 - 00:07:13.434

Well, yeah, because I just. I was just. I hadn't surfed in a long time. Like, I'm just gonna play, right? We had. My daughter's boyfriend was with us. We have my niece there.

I'm like, I'm just gonna. Just do some. Just play around in here. It's been a while since I've been in the water, and then I just caught this awesome reformed inside wave.

And I'm like, this is great. I forgot. I'm like, why don't I do this every single day of my life? Why don't I do that? But.

But then also, I think you appreciate this because my daughter's boyfriend from San Diego had never surfed.

Justin Housman

00:07:13.482 - 00:07:14.138

Huh.

Colin True

00:07:14.314 - 00:07:37.686

Grew up here. Yep. So they, y'all, you know, got him, put him in one of my wetsuits. They're out there just kind of playing around.

He just took a board and just started playing around on it. Of course, playing in the whitewash, stood up immediately is like, oh, my God. Like, oh, the wasted years. Right?

So when we got back to our house, I have like a. I think it's like a 9 6, like foamy. Like one of the first boards ever had. I'm like, hey, dude, that's your board.

Justin Housman

00:07:37.758 - 00:07:38.470

That's awesome.

Colin True

00:07:38.550 - 00:07:42.838

And then I grabbed one of my wetsuits. I'm like. And here you go. I'm like, just save the kid. Save the. Save the 20 year old kid.

Justin Housman

00:07:42.854 - 00:07:43.862

You know, that's awesome.

Colin True

00:07:43.926 - 00:07:46.070

500 bucks, you know, so he's all stoked now.

Justin Housman

00:07:46.110 - 00:07:49.286

That's your. That's your. That's your. Your daughter's boyfriend?

Colin True

00:07:49.478 - 00:07:49.990

Yes.

Justin Housman

00:07:50.070 - 00:07:53.930

My. Is that like her first real boyfriend?

Colin True

00:07:54.280 - 00:07:55.520

Yeah, first real boyfriend.

Justin Housman

00:07:55.600 - 00:08:04.340

My. My first real girlfriend's dad gave me. The only thing he ever gave me was a. Was a VHS copy of the Robert Redford film Brew Baker.

Colin True

00:08:05.800 - 00:08:06.848

Not even one of the good ones.

Justin Housman

00:08:06.864 - 00:08:20.800

I don't even know when I. I opened it and I thought it was a joke and I started laughing. He's like, it's a really good movie. He. That was the only thing he ever gave.

Did you ever watch Now I gotta watch 19. I'm not like into like old Robert Redford films.

Colin True

00:08:20.960 - 00:08:22.220

We should watch it.

Justin Housman

00:08:23.720 - 00:08:29.462

But I, but like I don't. No. If I had a VHS player anymore. Yeah, no, I did. It was on vhs.

Colin True

00:08:29.606 - 00:08:29.926

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:08:29.958 - 00:08:34.230

I kept it for a long time. I don't know why, I just thought like in the plastic wrap someday I'm.

Colin True

00:08:34.310 - 00:08:42.294

First of all, I thought you said he gave you like a pack of cigarettes or something like that. That would have been hilarious. But yeah, the VHS copy of Brewmaker is the best thing I've ever heard.

Justin Housman

00:08:42.342 - 00:09:00.160

I mean like, I was like, dude, maybe I don't know if he was trying to toughen me up. Like, I was just like.

The first time you met me, your daughter was like, like putting little, like, I don't even know what you call like little beads in my hair because I like make like like braiding and putting beads in my hair. And like he's trying to tell this kid up.

Colin True

00:09:00.620 - 00:09:03.924

You did text me though. You said you wanted to make sure you mentioned your new bike on the pod.

Justin Housman

00:09:03.972 - 00:09:10.324

Oh, it was. That's my, that's my intro. That's my segue. Oh yeah, because you, yeah, just like.

Colin True

00:09:10.332 - 00:09:11.652

You know, getting caught up. It's been a minute.

Justin Housman

00:09:11.716 - 00:09:38.990

That's true, that's true. I have, I have not been surfing because up here in the springtime you can't touch the ocean.

Like it's just, like, it's just so windy and so nasty every day. You have no interest in going there. And if you do foolishly get in the ocean, it's as cold as it gets all year. So it's just like, ugh, God.

Such a good time to do anything else. But I have been riding the bike a lot and I'm excited to talk about the, the bike I'm really, really jazzed on which is the priority. H X T.

Do we talk about this at all?

Colin True

00:09:39.370 - 00:09:40.674

We've priorities.

Justin Housman

00:09:40.722 - 00:09:43.906

I know we talked about the first one. Okay, but like I had a priority.

Colin True

00:09:43.938 - 00:09:46.658

But not, not this bike. But we, neither of us have ever ridden one before.

Justin Housman

00:09:46.714 - 00:10:28.450

Okay, so I had a. That's not true. I had a priority belt drive bike, but it was a single speed that I had just as like a fuck around, around town bike.

It was modeled on like an old, like a clunker. Like it was just you know, had like knobby tires, but. But single. It was a, you know, single speed butt belt drive. But. But which is cool.

But like, what.

The one I have now is just like one of those things where you go, okay, this is either definitely the future or like just a weird glimpse into a parallel, like, bike universe that may never go anywhere but probably should. It's a hardtail, nice suspension fork, Fox 36, but Belt Drive. But what's amazing is it has a gearbox and.

Colin True

00:10:28.570 - 00:10:29.058

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:10:29.154 - 00:10:30.290

And it has electronic.

Colin True

00:10:30.370 - 00:10:31.506

This is the Doozer special.

Justin Housman

00:10:31.578 - 00:11:14.298

Yeah. More. Yeah, I mean he's like, he invented it. But like, like Pinion is its own company. But I. And they're on other bright brands.

But like Priority only uses opinion for the most part. Pinion drives or whatever. But anyway, this one has what's called smart shift. So it's electronic shifting.

And why that matters is you can just straight up shift through all of the gears without pedaling. So you can be like. Which you have to think about for a second to realize how cool that is.

You know, like, you can be like bombing down a hill in your highest gear. Right. And then like, see that, like, it. You're gonna, you know, hit a. Hit the bottom and then climb really aggressively.

And normally you have to like, start being strategic. Okay. I'm gonna like, I'm gonna downshift and like start pedaling to catch up with it, you know?

Colin True

00:11:14.354 - 00:11:14.682

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:11:14.746 - 00:11:41.660

This thing, you can literally just go from 12 to 1 and then. And then like, then your next pedal stroke. Boom. You're in first gear now, which is so fudgeing sweet. Like, you can just stand.

You can just be sitting there, like just sitting on your bike, not pedaling anywhere, just pedal through with all the gears and just. It doesn't matter. You don't. It's actually harder. It's worse for it. If you're pedaling while you shift like that, that's when you'll get like a clunk.

Otherwise it's perfectly smooth. It's a. It's effectively a manual transmission from a car. But there's no like, clutch.

Colin True

00:11:42.080 - 00:11:42.440

Right.

Justin Housman

00:11:42.480 - 00:11:55.674

So it has an. It's all of it that's internal. There's nothing you can do to like, you can't. You can't hurt it.

Like all you change the oil in it that whatever the like gear oil is once a year or like once every, like, I forget, a thousand kilometers.

Colin True

00:11:55.802 - 00:11:57.190

I was going to ask how you service.

Justin Housman

00:11:57.730 - 00:11:59.274

That's literally it. There's no derailleur.

Colin True

00:11:59.322 - 00:12:02.506

Well, she's got to wear out Right. I mean, eventually something like it's going to break in there.

Justin Housman

00:12:02.578 - 00:12:17.930

Probably not. I mean, it's just like a. It's just a series of gears with oil. Like, unless something gets in there.

Like, for the most part, unless, I guess if you shift it like an asshole, you might be able to like, screw it up, but, like, the belt will break at some point, but probably not. The. Probably not like, while you have the bike, you know, I mean, like.

Colin True

00:12:17.970 - 00:12:18.650

Right, right.

Justin Housman

00:12:18.770 - 00:12:56.942

Just. It's just so fucking awesome. Like, it never gets dirt. Like, you leave it outside, it doesn't rust, you don't have to lubricate it.

Like, and it's dead silent. So, you know, you go over like a, like over. You're like. The only downside, they put a really loud hub on it. I don't know why.

It's one of the loudest hubs I've ever had. It would be cooler if they had a much quieter hub because there's no chain rattle. There's no derailer banging around. Like, there's. It's dead silent.

So, like, you'll go off a curb or something that don't like nothing. You don't hear a thing, you don't feel a thing. It's just awesome.

And it's like now when I get on a bike that has a derailleur, it feels super archaic to me. Even if it even, like, even, like, even the SRAM axis transmission I have.

Colin True

00:12:56.966 - 00:12:57.630

Is it heavy?

Justin Housman

00:12:57.710 - 00:12:59.550

Yeah, that's the one down.

Colin True

00:12:59.670 - 00:13:00.654

There must be some downside.

Justin Housman

00:13:00.702 - 00:13:09.454

Well, there's two downsides.

One, it's a little bit heavy, but really, I don't even necessarily think you would think about it unless you were like a totally, like a cross country weirdo that like, is obsessed with weight.

Colin True

00:13:09.502 - 00:13:10.990

Right, Right. Trying to win races or something. Right.

Justin Housman

00:13:11.030 - 00:13:41.890

It weighs like 35 pounds, but all of that weight is in the middle of the bike. So it's not like on the. There's no cassette, there's no derailleur in the back.

So all the weight is centered, which makes it feel a little bit more like, planted. And like, it's actually a much nicer experience. The back tire whips around. Really? They also have super short change days.

So the back tire, like, whips around a bunch. Yeah. Weighs like, I want to say 35, 36 pounds. It weighs a lot.

The other downside is there's a little bit more drag than there is with a, with a chain and like metal and a cassette.

Colin True

00:13:42.310 - 00:13:42.910

Okay.

Justin Housman

00:13:42.990 - 00:13:45.022

And I, I've talked to the guys, drag How?

Colin True

00:13:45.046 - 00:13:45.342

What do you mean?

Justin Housman

00:13:45.366 - 00:14:58.900

Like, you can feel it, like, as you're pedaling. It's like, it takes like, like, like 1%, if even that much more effort to like you doesn't.

You don't necessarily notice it all the time, but there are times where you're like, I feel like I should be going a little bit faster. Um, yeah, and, and I talked to the prior guys about it and there is like a little tiny bit.

It's very small, like, more drag than there would be on a bike that has a chain.

Um, but the trade off is that you can ride this bike through, like, all of Asia and it's not going to, like, at no point are you gonna have to, like, service a drivetrain like, at all. Like, you just. It doesn't matter what kind of mud or you ride through it. It just, it's. It's better. It's just a better system.

Like, there's no reason to have chains. Like, this is such a better system.

And I really wish that Shimano or SRAM or anybody else that has deeper pockets and Pinion does would like, figure out a way to make it lighter and, and whatever improvements they could make to the gearbox, because it is brilliant. Like, it's just, it's just such a better way of having a bike. Like, it feels so much better to ride.

It feels so much better to, like, do anything other than if it's not for that drag. This bike also has really chunky, really sticky tires on it. And I have a feeling if I just went down to like 2.3s or something.

Yeah, it would be a lot. I may not even notice, but. Oh, it is awesome.

Colin True

00:14:59.240 - 00:15:04.560

The only problem I can detect in this is. Did you let Priority know that you're not a gear reviewer anymore?

Justin Housman

00:15:04.640 - 00:15:08.928

Well, here I am. You know.

Colin True

00:15:08.984 - 00:15:11.248

That's right. You're on a podcast talking about so it counts.

Justin Housman

00:15:11.264 - 00:15:16.708

Yeah. And you know what? Like, I don't know. People talk, ask me about all the time. Like, I get.

Colin True

00:15:16.764 - 00:15:17.140

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:15:17.220 - 00:15:25.508

I mean, this town's a very, like, bike friendly town. So people know what Bell drives are. Oh, I've heard of those. What is that? What do you think? Right, right, right. So, you know, it's kind of.

Colin True

00:15:25.564 - 00:15:31.204

All right. So I guess push comes to shove, like, okay, all your bikes are taken away. You have to go buy a new mountain bike tomorrow. Is this what you're buying?

Justin Housman

00:15:31.252 - 00:15:32.452

No, no, I wouldn't go that far.

Colin True

00:15:32.476 - 00:15:34.132

Oh, okay. Okay.

Justin Housman

00:15:34.196 - 00:15:34.516

But.

Colin True

00:15:34.588 - 00:15:36.388

All right, we got a little work to do.

Justin Housman

00:15:36.444 - 00:16:04.642

I am going to sell.

I'm probably going to sell my regular, a full suspension bike at this point, my normal trail bike and just have this thing, my E bike, my E mountain bike and then I might get across. I think I'll probably get a cross country full suspension bike, like a specialized Epic or something. There you go.

Because the trails around here you can get away with not having like a full on trail bike. But I would think that like 90 of my rides would be on the priority. I mean it's, it's, it's really good. It's really, really good.

Colin True

00:16:04.826 - 00:16:08.626

I'm all about the lower maintenance stuff, so I'm definitely interested in trying that out. Okay. All right, good.

Justin Housman

00:16:08.698 - 00:16:12.446

Camping and work if there's one. If there's two things you hate, it's camping bike maintenance.

Colin True

00:16:12.638 - 00:16:14.170

Yeah, I don't like either one.

Justin Housman

00:16:14.790 - 00:16:20.610

I prefer camping the bike maintenance. Imagine like having to fix your bike while bike packing. God, you would die.

Colin True

00:16:22.230 - 00:17:01.540

Just like, just send a helicopter and pick me up. All right, hey, so let's get into our top story today, which is presented by your hub for ultralight gear, which is garage grown gear.

Head to garagegrowngear.com check them out. So this is by ABC Australia. There was an article I read this week. It's a scene straight out of the film Open Water.

I believe it was called Open Water.

Two brothers, yeah, two brothers on a diving expedition off the coast of Perth were left stranded at sea when the boat they arrived in returned the shore without them. So they're 35 minutes into their dive, they were underwater and the brothers heard the engine of the boat start.

When they surface, one of the brothers said to the other one, I think these are leaving us in the water.

Justin Housman

00:17:01.660 - 00:17:03.560

That's so awesome.

Colin True

00:17:04.060 - 00:17:11.012

And then after nearly an hour, one of the pair was picked up by a passing ferry. I didn't really get it. They didn't say in the fair in the article why only one was picked up.

Justin Housman

00:17:11.036 - 00:17:12.756

But they picked up one, the other one's dead.

Colin True

00:17:12.788 - 00:17:13.410

Then the boat.

Justin Housman

00:17:13.500 - 00:17:14.006

Sorry.

Colin True

00:17:14.118 - 00:17:24.758

Then the boat that had left them realized their mistake and they were planning to return from them.

And apparently someone, a member of that crew said, well, maybe the ferry could put the one they have back in the water so we could pick up both of them.

Justin Housman

00:17:24.814 - 00:17:25.450

Huh.

Colin True

00:17:25.870 - 00:17:31.494

Anyway, the dive company acknowledged their mistake, asked that they not sue them. I guess, number one, this is a comedy of errors.

Justin Housman

00:17:31.542 - 00:17:38.054

It's also dive company. Please don't sue us for almost killing you in like a horrifying way.

Colin True

00:17:38.142 - 00:17:43.430

I mean, we talk a lot, you and I, about what's the Scariest thing in the outdoors. This might be the new scariest thing.

Justin Housman

00:17:43.470 - 00:18:04.710

It would be pretty fucked. I mean, I. I was. It's funny. It's. It's just funny because I was riding the ferry home from work today, and I'm. I was just standing on the.

On the deck and, you know, it's pretty, like, super choppy and, like, pretty windy. And I was. The whole way, I'm like, okay, if I fell off here, what would happen if I fell off here? What would happen if I fell off here? Just imagine.

Colin True

00:18:04.790 - 00:18:05.766

Could you swim to shore?

Justin Housman

00:18:05.798 - 00:18:46.710

Like, would I die? Like, the water's about 52 in the bay, Pretty windy, you know, and, you know, they're like.

And the currents in San Francisco Bay are notoriously, like, super gnarly. And I have no idea what the shark is doing right now. So, like, I wouldn't know necessarily which direction to swim, but. Yeah, and. And I would.

I was thinking, well, there's other ferries. Would they seem like, would I get rescued by a fair? Would they see me? Probably.

I, like, would it make more sense to swim toward that island that's half mile away? I don't know if I can swim that far right now.

Or does it make more sense to just, like, doggy paddle in the middle of the ferry channel and, like, hope to Christ one of them sees me? You know? Like, I. I have no idea, but for some reason, I wasn't, like, worried about it. I just was thinking about it the whole way home.

Colin True

00:18:47.410 - 00:18:58.010

That was the one thing I'm like, when they picked up the one guy, I'm like, it's amazing that fairy saw the two guys in the middle of the ocean. I mean, that's the thing about if you get lost at sea, it's like, good luck, you know, there's like, they could fly right over you and not see you.

Justin Housman

00:18:58.050 - 00:19:16.764

I, like, curious how far away they were. Like, could they not have swam back? Is that. Maybe that's why one of them. Maybe that's why they only captured one.

I mean, if they're wearing scuba gear or snorkeling dead fins, yeah, like, you could make it pretty goddamn far. Although Western Australia would not want to be in the water for very long. Holy smokes. That sharky over there.

Colin True

00:19:16.932 - 00:19:17.680

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:19:18.580 - 00:19:25.740

Yeah, that's. That's. That's pretty. That's pretty horrific. Although. Do you. Did you watch Magnum PI Were you a Magnum fan?

Colin True

00:19:25.900 - 00:19:28.108

I'm not, like, obsessively, but I have seen the.

Justin Housman

00:19:28.164 - 00:20:01.580

One of the, like, more famous episodes. It's one of those ones where clearly the writers were like, I don't know, like, are you out of it? I'm out of ideas.

So the episode was like, I forget what. He fell out of a boat, presumably. He's just, like, fell out of a boat off the. You know, in, you know, Magna PI takes place.

He lives in Hawaii, falls off the boat. And he just was, like, treading water for the entire episode. And he's, like, reliving old memories.

And he's like, somehow he's, like, aware that, like, the. He knew the world record for, like, treading water. And he. He, like, was like, well, I guess I'll have to break that.

Just like the whole episode is him just treading water. And they're like, was it a clip show?

Colin True

00:20:01.620 - 00:20:04.424

Like, were they showing scenes from, like, other old epis? It.

Justin Housman

00:20:04.432 - 00:20:16.900

And you're just like, come on. Even as a kid, I'm like, are you serious? This is lazy. Right? And eventually he gets picked up by. I don't.

I don't remember who, but I think about this all the time as well. Like, could I. I wonder how long, like, could I tread water for three days? You know? Like, I don't know.

Colin True

00:20:17.520 - 00:20:22.580

So in. In the. In the. You know, the bear, the. What are the other things? We always.

Justin Housman

00:20:22.960 - 00:20:24.360

Probably shark. I mean, sharks.

Colin True

00:20:24.440 - 00:20:32.596

Sharks, Sharks. I guess this is kind of in the shark camp, but, I mean, you're not thinking about sharks. You think about. They think about sharks.

You usually think like, oh, I'm surfing or whatever. This is like, I'm in the middle.

Justin Housman

00:20:32.788 - 00:20:43.972

That would be pretty horrific. That would be pretty damn horrific. We've talked before about just being on a tiny boat in the middle of the ocean during, like, a huge storm.

That's pretty scary. Now, this would be bad. I mean, at least the water's warm there, but still, this would be real bad.

Colin True

00:20:44.156 - 00:20:47.940

What point do you just sort of, like, just go underwater and try and stay under there until it's over?

Justin Housman

00:20:48.060 - 00:20:59.684

I don't know. Probably. I don't know. Like, you. I guess it would depend on what I had going on in life at the point.

There's been definitely been times where I'd be like, you know what? Fuck it. Like, for sure.

Colin True

00:20:59.772 - 00:21:01.300

Like, oh, this is what's happening now.

Justin Housman

00:21:01.340 - 00:21:10.960

I mean, all right, fine. You know, know, like, you. I assume you can just take a big gulp of water and you're just like.

Like, if you just started to breathe it in, that's probably the fastest way. I don't. I don't know. It's a good.

Colin True

00:21:11.000 - 00:21:17.472

I do. My. My Favorite thing is the people. Like, hey, could don't sue us, please. Like, buddy, I think I'm going to be calling.

Justin Housman

00:21:17.536 - 00:21:29.740

Love that. Love the request on that. Please don't. Like, could you just not. Yeah, like, how does that happen? Do you not do a count? Were there.

Were there 300 people on this boat? Like, what's going on here?

Colin True

00:21:31.800 - 00:21:36.028

Yeah, it's like, that's a premise in the. That movie open. Like, ah, you really would leave somebody behind.

Justin Housman

00:21:36.084 - 00:21:37.292

Is that the premise of that movie?

Colin True

00:21:37.356 - 00:21:40.572

Yeah, I think so. Another one with the two divers and then like the sharks are circling around.

Justin Housman

00:21:40.596 - 00:22:13.582

I think that actually, yeah, maybe. I've only ever done anything like this once. My wife and I in. Went to Panama for our honeymoon on the Caribbean side.

We went like snorkeling and it was like, you know, some, some. It's funny, I don't think I would do this now, but at the time you're like some guy with a boat, like a handwritten sign or whatever.

Maybe there was the Internet, I don't remember. I guess the Internet existed. We probably looked it up online.

But it's just like, Ted's just snorkeling, you know, it's like, I don't know who this guy is, you know, just like, here's my catamaran and you just get on and just sail. Or you're like, well, I'm assuming this is fine, you know, and like. But like, would have occurred to me.

Colin True

00:22:13.606 - 00:22:15.134

We signed a waiver. Nah, no waiver.

Justin Housman

00:22:15.182 - 00:22:28.238

You're good. I wouldn't have occurred to me to be like, oh, hope he doesn't leave us while we're down here.

Like, that's not something I would have even thought to be scared of. But now I will be if I ever do this again. I feel like with in. In Greece, snorkeling, you'd be like one eye on the boat the whole time.

Colin True

00:22:28.374 - 00:22:30.968

Yeah, Ted, you're gonna bring us back, right?

Justin Housman

00:22:31.024 - 00:22:37.800

Other thing that hadn't really thought about, maybe these guys were assholes. Like huge assholes. And the boat was just like, that's funny.

Colin True

00:22:37.960 - 00:22:39.656

I love that. Like, you know what? Fuck these guys.

Justin Housman

00:22:39.688 - 00:22:43.432

I could easily imagine a couple Australians, like, pissing me off that bad. Like, real fast.

Colin True

00:22:43.496 - 00:22:46.312

We told them they had 30 minutes. It's been 35 minutes. We're out.

Justin Housman

00:22:46.336 - 00:22:47.496

We knew the rules.

Colin True

00:22:47.688 - 00:23:04.794

Yep. Yep. Well, hey, Justin, you know, now more than ever, small and independent brands, they need your support.

Unlike big corporations, small brands don't always have the resources to quickly shift manufacturing, absorb surprise costs, or have the cash to Pay wild tariffs. Garage Growing gear is a place I was actually.

Justin Housman

00:23:04.882 - 00:23:09.626

I'm sorry I was told I was. I was told China would. China was paying the tariffs.

Colin True

00:23:09.738 - 00:23:23.754

Oh yeah. That's what's going to happen. Right? That was told.

Garage door gear is a place where you can find innovative ultralight backpacking gear from 200 plus small and ultralight brands all in one place. If you need gear the season, consider supporting small brands first before going to.

Justin Housman

00:23:23.762 - 00:23:31.640

The big guys as you just everyone as you're in the Read here for vs. An, all caps. I don't think you really hit the all caps on that.

Colin True

00:23:31.940 - 00:23:47.680

Hold on. Consider supporting small brands first before going to the big guys for what you need.

You'll be supporting those who need it more and you get some pretty cool gear. While you're at it, check out GGG via the link in the show notes or just head to garage growing gear.

Justin Housman

00:23:48.020 - 00:24:27.040

And hey, hey, don't just listen to this and just or like scan 30 seconds forward like I do when I'm hearing the ads in in my favorite podcast they have some really cool brands like Garage growing gear. If you haven't listened to our episode where we talk about Lloyd, Lloyd Vogel, the founder of Garage Gun Gears. Like five. Or was it five?

I think it was five. Five USA favorite USA made brands all of which they sell there.

Each one was so much cooler than anything I thought that they would like sell just, just like really cool. So check for sure. Even if you don't, you know, you're not like an ultra light backpacker.

I'm not an ultra light backpacker which is why I haven't been like doing deep dives on their site. But there's some really cool stuff.

Colin True

00:24:27.540 - 00:24:36.540

Yeah, we're gonna. We can't wait to have Lloyd back on because that was such a fun episode and I was like just the.

The best part was there's only one of the brands you would. You would have been heard of and like that's.

Justin Housman

00:24:36.620 - 00:24:40.220

And I wouldn't have if they weren't from San Francisco because they made I would never in a million years use.

Colin True

00:24:40.340 - 00:24:41.480

Right. That's a good.

Justin Housman

00:24:41.860 - 00:24:46.160

That's why like weirdly specific climbing loops or something like it was very specific.

Colin True

00:24:49.170 - 00:26:07.302

Today's episode of the Rock Fight is presented by Oboz, who wants to share their love of hiking and we want to help them by uncovering all the different reasons we love to take the long walk. And right now we're going to count five of the ways that we love hiking.

Number one, you can go solo or bring A crew both come with their own drama, so tread lightly. Number two, no two trails are exactly the same, but your legs won't care by mile six.

Number three, you get to earn your hot chocolate, your beer or whatever. You know what I'm talking about. Guilt free carbs, baby.

Number four, hey, hiking builds confidence, especially after you dominate that quote unquote moderate trail that tried to kill you.

And number five, for every hike completed over a mile long during the month of April, Oboz will plant a tree as part of its Trails for Trees challenge. For each hike completed, participants will also receive chances to win weekly prizes from Oboz and challenge partners.

Registration is free and still open right now@ TrailsFortrees.com this hiking appreciation moment is brought to you by Oboz, a Bozeman, Montana maker of the katabatic collection that includes the katabatic LT and the katabatic wind. Justin Housman

00:26:07.366 - 00:26:12.358

Justin, my stomach just. That. That's half of that sentence is ringing.

Colin True

00:26:12.374 - 00:26:35.924

A wave pool to the desert.

Zion Shores will be a quote luxury served community based in southern Utah with a quote 164 foot wide dynamic wave surf pool and a 60 foot wide standing wave that would be built just outside St. George.

Some local residents have expressed questions about what will be the nation's largest wave pool with one of the one calling the move tone deaf.

Justin Housman

00:26:35.972 - 00:26:37.028

Just one person.

Colin True

00:26:37.164 - 00:26:42.516

Well, they quoted in the article. Anyway, I'm just gonna step aside and let Justin tell you why this is a terrible idea.

Justin Housman

00:26:42.628 - 00:26:46.468

Oh boy. Well, I just.

Colin True

00:26:46.604 - 00:26:49.800

Your eyes closed. As soon as I started reading it, I knew this was gonna.

Justin Housman

00:26:50.140 - 00:26:54.052

I didn't. Some. I heard about this pool. I didn't somehow I didn't know it was called Zion Shores.

Colin True

00:26:54.116 - 00:26:55.156

That's so bad.

Justin Housman

00:26:55.308 - 00:27:02.484

Is, I mean, is it gonna be. Is that just like a. Like a really shallow tip of the cap to Mormonism maybe?

Colin True

00:27:02.532 - 00:27:05.160

I mean, you're by Zion national park in St. George.

Justin Housman

00:27:05.820 - 00:27:50.348

Oh, I forgot. That's where Zion is. Still. This is God. Surfers are God. They're just so stupid. Like you just, you can't just like call it that.

You can't just call it Zion. Like it doesn't make any sense. It actually it's a, it's an affront to the national park. As far as I'm concerned, it's not the beach of Zion.

Yeah, I, I mean when I first saw it just now, I was like, oh, My God, this is like some dumb Mormon thing. Then I realized, okay, Zion national park, all right. Zion Shores is like, no, sorry, do not bring that. Do not.

Do not associate that wonderful national park with your American wave machines. Don't. This is awful. Everything about it's awful. Utah is having issues with water. It's going to get worse. Where is this going to come from?

Colin True

00:27:50.404 - 00:27:50.764

Sure.

Justin Housman

00:27:50.852 - 00:27:58.246

I mean that. But, like, I. I'm tired of being angry at that. I just. I still don't know who wants the wave pools. I still don't know.

Colin True

00:27:58.318 - 00:27:58.970

It's.

Justin Housman

00:27:59.550 - 00:28:12.198

People do. People do. Don't get me wrong, people do. They're like, wouldn't be building this if they didn't make money. I get.

I'm not saying I don't know anybody who does, because most of my friends seem to enjoy them that have gone to them. The concept still, to me is just. Is fucking hideous.

Colin True

00:28:12.294 - 00:28:21.478

Well, I think we're still in the novelty phase of this, right? Because, like, so the other day I was driving down the highway and I went by one of those, like, indoor skydiving places. You ever do one of those?

Yeah, it's like a big wind tunnel.

Justin Housman

00:28:21.494 - 00:28:23.592

No, I haven't, but I kind of am interested.

Colin True

00:28:23.726 - 00:28:25.124

And so. Right. Because it sounds kind of.

Justin Housman

00:28:25.132 - 00:28:25.716

Oh, that's cool.

Colin True

00:28:25.748 - 00:28:27.876

Right? We did one as, like a team building when I was a Timberland.

Justin Housman

00:28:27.908 - 00:28:29.908

I'd rather do that than actual skydive.

Colin True

00:28:30.084 - 00:29:01.922

Well, that is. Right. But I always wonder how these places stay in business. Because it's not cheap. Pretty much. Right.

And is that ultimately what this is going to be if. If the. If the wave pool movement proliferates and it becomes pickleball?

Which, by the way, I had a PR company pitch me on pickleball stuff this week, which was hilarious, and I meant to forward it to you. But anyway, like, if it's a. If that's where wave pools are going.

I mean, because I get it, like, if you put a wave pool like where we live and say, hey, you know, surfers want to go and, like, train on day, whatever. And, like, there's a reason a lot.

Justin Housman

00:29:01.946 - 00:29:03.858

More sense than St. George, Utah.

Colin True

00:29:03.954 - 00:29:16.674

That's what I mean. Who is gonna turn up? Because right now you'll go to Kelly Slater's thing because it's like, in the desert.

Because, like, well, that's where the one is. And if you want to do it, you go there. If they're all over the place, it's just going to be a water park.

Justin Housman

00:29:16.762 - 00:29:28.960

I don't understand. That's the thing. I've never, I have not really understood with the wave pools that are nowhere near the ocean.

Like I just don't like, like Waco, but I know people that go there. That's the fucking thing I don't get.

Colin True

00:29:29.000 - 00:29:33.824

I think it's still the novelty. That's why I think like surfers will go right now to check out, check that out. Right.

Justin Housman

00:29:33.912 - 00:29:44.544

I guess. I mean like it's a, it's a surf trip, you know, like you're with your friends, you're not doing, you're doing nothing but surf.

You could surf all day. Like it's a surf trip. I get that.

Colin True

00:29:44.712 - 00:29:51.232

But I think it makes more sense for that than it does for people who don't serve. I mean it's like okay, so let's say you know, it totally does.

Justin Housman

00:29:51.256 - 00:30:02.320

But like I'm not gonna fly to Utah to do it. Like that's the thing I don't get what.

Especially if you live within like, Well I don't know, I get fly to Salt Lake City about same time I could fly to Palm Desert I guess where the like the best one in California is.

Colin True

00:30:02.440 - 00:30:25.590

But, but it kills the surfing experience.

Like you know, so even if you're living in Utah and it's like oh, we could go try surfing at this wave pool and I'm sure they'll have beginner waves and they'll teach you how to do it or whatever. It's like yeah, but you could fly to like Huntington beach and have the same experience.

You know, it's just like, you know, and do it in the ocean in a place where surf culture matters.

And it's kind of like, it's a much more immersive thing about understanding what the sport is actually about versus just going to a chlorine filled pool.

Justin Housman

00:30:25.670 - 00:30:40.342

I mean like, and the waves are, I mean some, some of these, I guess they, I, I've only ever, I guess I only ever see the good sections of the waves. But I mean like none of the wave pools that you want to surfer remotely suitable for beginners. Like yeah. At all.

Colin True

00:30:40.366 - 00:30:40.774

Yeah, that's true.

Justin Housman

00:30:40.782 - 00:31:02.434

They're usually overhead or not even that they're or they're just like really fast breaking or they're hollow. They're built for someone who knows how to surf. And so it's like right, like you're not going to learn on a place like that.

Although I'm sure they have beginner level or whatever. But I, I agree, I, I true. I mean I'm, I've this thing for 15 years. Like I've just, I've. I've never understood it.

It's never made any sense to me at all.

Colin True

00:31:02.602 - 00:31:07.842

I bet it's one of those things like we talk about if we play golf or even pickleball, where it's like, if we went, I'm sure, like, we'd have fun.

Justin Housman

00:31:07.866 - 00:31:10.002

If I would have fun, no question would I have fun.

Colin True

00:31:10.026 - 00:31:18.114

But I just. And also, yeah, the tone deaf thing is true.

Like, I mean, come on, man, in the middle of the desert, you have a giant pool like that for this purpose.

Justin Housman

00:31:18.242 - 00:31:25.106

Like Saint. I mean, in some ways, like Saint George is, you know, it's like a mountain bike mecca. I, I don't know if you can ski there. I have no idea, Brian.

Colin True

00:31:25.138 - 00:31:26.270

Head's not that far away.

Justin Housman

00:31:26.640 - 00:32:02.658

So I guess, you know, we're going to be an outdoor sports in America. I might as well have surfing. And I just like, I mean, I, I don't know how you.

I truthfully don't know how anybody involved in anything like that can be like, okay, it's 2025. We're for so many reasons. But you know what?

I'm going to put all that aside and just like waste an absolute ton of resources on something that matters. Not even a tiny bit logically. Makes very little sense. Just for the purpose of what again? Like, like just, just give that money to Zion.

Like, what do you do? Like, just. How do you, how do you sleep at night? I don't know how you would sleep at night.

Colin True

00:32:02.714 - 00:32:12.914

Like, I can't imagine the. Unless it's cheap. It must be like, right? I mean, to run that thing. I'm sure a ticket to go do it.

If you're going to do that in that part of the country. Just build a regular water park.

Justin Housman

00:32:13.002 - 00:32:24.328

Yeah, like, we don't need that. Let's stop. Like, we need to be like more thoughtful about the shit that we're building. You're already in a fucking spectacular place.

Go on a goddamn bike ride.

Colin True

00:32:24.504 - 00:32:26.840

Yeah, yeah.

Justin Housman

00:32:27.000 - 00:32:31.784

Or just trip, do a bunch of like drugs and trip out, pretend you're surfing. Like, like you can't do that with.

Colin True

00:32:31.792 - 00:32:33.816

Your kids though, you know, they'll put you in jail.

Justin Housman

00:32:33.848 - 00:32:38.140

She's such a puritan. Oh, they'll put you in jail. That's true. Yeah. Yeah, that's true.

Colin True

00:32:38.800 - 00:32:41.460

Like, my kids are high right now. What are you talking about?

Justin Housman

00:32:42.720 - 00:32:45.384

God, I'm never going to Utah. That's good.

Colin True

00:32:45.392 - 00:32:48.024

You know, some good old fashioned houseman vitriol right there, baby.

Justin Housman

00:32:48.072 - 00:32:51.920

I'm never going to Utah again. Hit me up. Write us about it. I don't care.

FITS!

00:32:56.860 - 00:33:40.040

We believe in the sock to make you happy. We believe in the sock whole foot comfort. We believe in the sock that don't have to bunch blister off all.

We believe in free range toes and having room to roam and fine gauge merino wool as comfortable as home. We, we believe in made in USA and we believe in doing what we say Wear fits. We fit. That's right. That's right. Wear fits. We fit. That's right. That's right. And we believe in the sock Fits, fits, fits. We believe in the sock fits, fits, fits.

Colin True

00:33:40.700 - 00:34:06.400

That was fit. Socks coming in hot or at least thermoregulated. They're bringing a fresh new socks down to 2025. If you don't know Fitzgerald fits, you should.

They're the even smarter merino performance brand with patented technology that does what it says it does. It fits. And now back to the show. I actually changed my, my parting shot. Oh, it's time for the party shot.

Justin Housman

00:34:06.560 - 00:34:07.664

While we were doing this.

Colin True

00:34:07.752 - 00:34:17.138

Yeah, yeah, I remember I started, I wrote a thing about, for my parting shot about the New Yorker article for Outside, which I can go. I haven't read that yet. Oh, oh, really?

Justin Housman

00:34:17.194 - 00:34:22.642

Yeah. Oh, do you remember who, do you remember who wrote it? Would you know Rachel. Not who I thought.

Colin True

00:34:22.746 - 00:34:24.098

I can't remember her last name.

Justin Housman

00:34:24.154 - 00:34:24.946

Okay, cool.

Colin True

00:34:24.978 - 00:34:26.690

I do. Yeah, it was good.

Justin Housman

00:34:26.730 - 00:34:33.314

Wait, when did it come out? I mean, we get the New Yorker. It's weird. My wife, she squirrels them away, but yes.

Colin True

00:34:33.362 - 00:35:17.040

Well, my summary on that was just like, just lock it in. They're never going to achieve what they're gonna. The one thing became clear in that is it's a. They're the mission of we.

We're using this platform to get people to go outside. But the who don't know about going outside wouldn't use your platform. And the people who want your platform, you're making it worse content.

They don't want what you're making anymore. So it's just like it's just not going to work. So that was my kind of summary there.

But I wrote about that in the newsletter or I wrote about the summit in the newsletter. The one thing I did want to talk about and I'm rolling off the cuff here, which is not usually what I do with my parting shot.

I know ESPN had an article about a missing climber whose body got found down in. I think it was in Peru.

Justin Housman

00:35:18.580 - 00:35:20.156

Like they died, obviously. Yeah.

Colin True

00:35:20.188 - 00:36:10.632

So 22 years ago, this climber died and another climber was actually had to turn back on their summit bit. I forget the name of the mountain they were on.

And they found this body, and then they discovered that this person had been gone missing, been died 22 years ago on an avalanche on this mountain and reached out to their family, and by doing so, like, they got to bring the body back and they got to, you know, kind of provide closure to all these people. But it was, like, something you would have read and outside. And outside, like, 15 years ago. And it was on ESPN.com and I'm like, that's awesome.

Like, I love seeing that on espn, number one. I'm like, yeah, man, espn. Like, expand your reach a little bit. But also showed, like. And I know it's.

It's something you could definitely read in an AJ Or a mountain Gazette and all that kind of stuff, too, but, you know, those magazines don't publish that often and don't really dig in to get into the digital content.

Justin Housman

00:36:10.736 - 00:36:15.210

Right. So I thought also, neither of them are sending people down to Peru to, like, cover the story. Story.

Colin True

00:36:15.670 - 00:36:26.830

Right. And so this was, I thought, a really good. I'll send you the link. I'll put the link in the show notes. Really well done, espn.

So parting shot, I guess, for me is to the rest of outdoor media about, like, don't forget about this stuff and put it on.

Justin Housman

00:36:26.870 - 00:36:27.118

Put.

Colin True

00:36:27.174 - 00:36:30.422

Put some things online because I do, like, my daily dose of adventures every once in a while.

Justin Housman

00:36:30.426 - 00:36:37.390

It is really sad that something like that has to be on espn and. But I mean, actually, no, it's not sad anymore that it's not an outside, because the outside's been dead for a long time.

Colin True

00:36:37.510 - 00:36:38.078

Right.

Justin Housman

00:36:38.214 - 00:36:44.806

But ESPN's kind of always flirted with good journalism. Them. You know, like, they've. Oh, yeah, like, ESPN the Magazine was so good. I miss.

Colin True

00:36:44.878 - 00:36:46.006

I love DSP in the magazine.

Justin Housman

00:36:46.038 - 00:36:57.910

I miss that. And, like, they had, like, a. They've had. They've, like, occasionally covered action sports, and they did a pretty good job with it.

And, like, I've all. I mean, they've. I don't. ESPN's always kind of ruled, I'll be honest with you.

Colin True

00:36:57.950 - 00:36:58.118

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:36:58.134 - 00:37:03.686

Like, I mean, there's a lot of like. Like, you. Yeah, you got to be a sports head, you know, like, to, like, really appreciate a lot of their content.

Colin True

00:37:03.758 - 00:37:07.974

And, like, the tv, like, the first takes, the Stephen A. Smiths and all that have kind of taken over.

Justin Housman

00:37:08.062 - 00:37:09.654

I'm sorry, I don't watch that.

Colin True

00:37:09.742 - 00:37:10.918

Mcafees and all that.

Justin Housman

00:37:10.974 - 00:37:15.522

All right, all right. I don't watch that. The fight is still, the storytelling is really good.

Colin True

00:37:15.626 - 00:37:16.194

I agree.

Justin Housman

00:37:16.282 - 00:37:22.670

The storytelling is really good. And the coverage of. And the coverage of actual, like, they're like, they're dropping baseball. Did you know that?

Colin True

00:37:23.050 - 00:37:25.074

What do you mean? Oh, yeah. From. From the.

Justin Housman

00:37:25.082 - 00:37:28.354

You can know ESPN's not going to cover baseball anymore, which I. I don't.

Colin True

00:37:28.402 - 00:37:30.786

Well, they're not gonna. Are the games. There's somebody cover the sport.

Justin Housman

00:37:30.818 - 00:37:39.922

Well, they're gonna cover it, but yeah, like, I don't know what that, like, this is not gonna be this Baseball Tonight. Not gonna be a thing anymore. Baseball Tonight has been like, with me since I was a baby. Like, oh, God.

Colin True

00:37:39.986 - 00:37:40.178

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:37:40.194 - 00:37:48.286

But yeah, they're not gonna show games anymore. But anyway, yeah, I'm not surprised to hear that because ESPN is a pretty good journalism outlet or media outlet.

Colin True

00:37:48.398 - 00:37:49.166

What do you got?

Justin Housman

00:37:49.238 - 00:38:12.850

Well, mine is also very erudite and, you know, concerned with letters and. And things of that nature.

When you call, when you drive your car, your Ford Maverick that you own, do you often drive with the passenger window and the driver's side window down? Would you say? Yeah, if you're by yourself?

Colin True

00:38:13.010 - 00:38:14.818

I will put. Yes.

Justin Housman

00:38:14.914 - 00:38:16.270

You're gonna drop them both?

Colin True

00:38:16.650 - 00:38:20.310

I drop all four. I put them all down. And the little rear view. Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:38:20.650 - 00:38:21.362

All right.

Colin True

00:38:21.466 - 00:38:23.730

You never put that into. You don't only put down your side.

Justin Housman

00:38:23.770 - 00:38:30.066

Yeah, it would never really occur to me. But. But let me ask you this. Would you also then blare music? No. No.

Colin True

00:38:30.138 - 00:38:34.770

I mean, I would, but if they pull up to a stop, layer turned it down, you know? Yeah. Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:38:34.850 - 00:38:39.922

So I guess I need to rethink my anger a little bit because my thinking.

Colin True

00:38:39.986 - 00:38:42.070

Don't base it off. I mean, maybe I'm the source.

Justin Housman

00:38:42.710 - 00:39:02.030

You'll see why.

Because, like, this has happened a couple times to me in the last week where I'll be coming home from work or from the ferry parking lot to my house, and there's somebody, always a single person, usually really young, but not always, you know, like, like passenger side window down, driver side window down there by themselves, just blaring music. And it's like.

Colin True

00:39:02.070 - 00:39:02.286

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:39:02.318 - 00:39:18.890

Are you just. Are you just. You just want everyone to hear it? Like, is that I. That's what I assume is that the whole point is, like, I want you. I have such good.

I want you to hear this horrible song right now. Like, that, like, everybody needs to hear how good this song is, even though it sucks ass. That's what I assume is happening.

Colin True

00:39:18.970 - 00:39:19.274

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:39:19.322 - 00:39:22.730

But now you're saying that you just. You just kind of knock them all down. I really think about.

Colin True

00:39:22.770 - 00:39:24.826

Don't you listen to. You don't blare music in your car.

Justin Housman

00:39:24.898 - 00:39:53.740

But I have the driver's side down, so unless you're the. Unless you're in the passenger seat next to me, you have no idea what the hell's going on. I'm not making you listen to me.

So I'm sitting here, I got my window down. I got my arm out the window. I might be listening to a podcast. I might be listening to. There's better music. But, like, I. No, I'm done. I'm done.

I can't, because you're next to me, and you got your passenger window down, and you're blaring the most heinous garbage. And now I'm listening to it too. And now I gotta roll my window up. Thanks. This.

Colin True

00:39:53.780 - 00:40:00.364

This has definitely been a problem for a while. I mean, this goes back. I mean, the 80s and 90s with the big, you know, the big subwoofers in the back of the cars and all that.

It's just like, you know, when you.

Justin Housman

00:40:00.372 - 00:40:02.764

Get to the stop light, that's rare around here.

Colin True

00:40:02.932 - 00:40:03.452

Yeah.

Justin Housman

00:40:03.516 - 00:40:03.756

Yeah.

Colin True

00:40:03.788 - 00:40:06.220

But if you get to the stoplight, it's time to turn it down.

Justin Housman

00:40:06.260 - 00:40:08.922

It's time to turn it down. Roll the passenger window up. Up.

Colin True

00:40:09.026 - 00:40:10.394

Yeah. Or that. That's fine.

Justin Housman

00:40:10.442 - 00:40:15.066

Or like, we're all driving 35 on the same road. I'm gonna be next to you the whole time, and I'm just like, I. Yeah.

Colin True

00:40:15.098 - 00:40:16.266

It's like, dude, come on, man.

Justin Housman

00:40:16.338 - 00:40:29.402

I love. One of my favorite things in the world to do is to be, like, next to someone like that, and I just look over at their car, shake my.

Like, slowly shake my head in disapproval while I'm rolling my window up. God, I love doing that so much.

Colin True

00:40:29.426 - 00:40:31.834

It's worth. It's worth them doing it just so you can do that.

Justin Housman

00:40:31.922 - 00:40:45.490

Just look. You look over, you see this, like, absolutely obnoxious white guy just looking at you. It's total disdain. Shaking his head as his window.

That's amazing. Probably so many people that hate me so much around here. There's that guy in the frontier again.

Colin True

00:40:47.870 - 00:40:50.130

Yeah, I mean, that is. That is.

Justin Housman

00:40:50.670 - 00:41:01.158

You're playing loud music. I don't want to hear it. I mean, unless I do. But that's rare, you know? It's very rare.

No one ever, like, rolls up, just blaring yellow Tango with all the windows down, you know? That's never what's happening.

Colin True

00:41:01.174 - 00:41:06.870

I think of a time when I rolled up to somebody who's blaring the Music. And I've looked over like, yeah, like I'm pumped about what they're listening to.

Justin Housman

00:41:06.910 - 00:41:07.110

No.

Colin True

00:41:07.150 - 00:41:07.702

Never happens.

Justin Housman

00:41:07.766 - 00:41:13.666

Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Up. Keep them tight. Keep them tight, folks. Roll them up. Keep them tight.

Colin True

00:41:13.858 - 00:41:19.522

All right, guys, that's the show for today. We want your emails. We want to hear what did we own. Get feedback on. Oh, the priority.

Justin Housman

00:41:19.586 - 00:41:24.178

I want to get. I want to get feedback on. On your. Are you a kite person? Do you like.

Colin True

00:41:24.234 - 00:41:25.922

What do you mean? Like kite surfing or just like to.

Justin Housman

00:41:25.946 - 00:41:28.530

Fly kites in this. In the. In the. In the. In a nice day.

I just bought. I was at Sprouts and they had a little pocket count kite and I'm like, cuz I'm. And then yesterday we're going to the.

On Sunday we're going to the beach. Completely forgot. It was so mad and it was. Of course it was nice and breezy. Would have been a great kite day.

You know, my next door neighbors have a free pile the other day. Had a, like a really nice, like big kite they clearly bought for their kids. They never used it. I'm like, that's mine. No, see, I was just draw.

I was like drawing kites while we're talking.
